Dear At Last Cafe,
It was years ago I saw you on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I watched the segment and thought what a great place and it’s 10 minutes away from me.
I was so impressed the first time we had dinner here. No reservations, but the host was able to make room for us. It was small and cozy, but what a great feel and atmosphere. First impressions are important, and you didn’t disappoint. The food was awesome and the service was excellent. It was like a little 5 Star restaurant hidden away in Long Beach.
I must say the 2nd and third time we came here was just as good as the first. The braised pork belly to this day is one of the best things I have ever eaten. I started telling all my friends about it. I even gave out gift certificates one Christmas to share the love.
All I can say is WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!
I know that once your on a show like triple DDD, they say be ready for the flood of people who want to try what Guy tries.
The last 2 times we came for dinner it was just plain bad service. No greet from the server, no menus or a “I’ll be right with you”, people who came after us getting service first, and just walking past without a nod. I understand when things are busy, but there were like 8 people in the place. I see our server sit down with the people a table away just chatting away.
I really liked this place for it’s neighborhood feel, but that seem to be gone now. It’s not just the food that makes the meal, but it’s the experience while your there. I can say that I’ve never had bad food here, but as good as it is it’s not worth crappy service.
This was one of favorite places to eat and kind of miss it. Just to be fair, I went back another time to see if the bad service was a fluke, but after our meal I thought maybe the great service the first 3 times was the fluke.
